Revamping and Launching a Real-Time Chat App for BTheCrew
Challenge
BTheCrew, a U.S.-based startup, set out to create a real-time chat app aimed at helping families stay connected with their elderly loved ones, promoting safety and independence. However, their initial development team left them with a poorly designed, incomplete app that had already cost them thousands of dollars. The app was missing essential functionality and was far from launch-ready.
Disappointed but determined, the BTheCrew co-founders reached out to Nyala, inspired by our successful work with similar startups like Carousel. They were looking for a team that could not only rescue their app but also rebuild trust in the development process.
Solution
Our first step was a discovery meeting to deeply understand BTheCrew’s requirements and frustrations. We reviewed the source code of their existing app but quickly determined it wasn’t salvageable. Instead of patching an unstable foundation, we proposed starting fresh.
We created a detailed mind map outlining the project deliverables, timelines, and features, and presented this to the co-founders in a follow-up meeting. Transparency was key—right from the start, we committed to keeping the co-founders involved through regular check-ins and progress updates. Reassured by our clear plan, they were eager to move forward, and we began development immediately after signing the contract.
Execution
Using our proven approach, we rebuilt the app from scratch. Our team prioritised strong architecture, seamless user experience, and efficient functionality to align with BTheCrew’s vision. Weekly check-ins became a vital part of the process, providing a platform for brainstorming new ideas and incorporating real-time feedback.
Once the app was complete, we went beyond development by assisting BTheCrew in creating the necessary accounts for both the Apple Store and Google Play. We managed the release process end-to-end, ensuring the app went live smoothly.
After the launch, our complimentary support period helped squash a couple of bugs and refine minor details, giving the app a polished edge at no extra cost.
